Day Passin’ in Cabo: Hilton Beach & Golf Resort

Lately, we’ve been looking for outlets to beat the heat, as we crawl our way through the long weeks of September, the hottest month of the year in Cabo. Day passes, offered to locals who want to enjoy a resort’s amenities, but are not staying overnight, are offered at quite a few resorts around Los Cabos. We decided it would be fun to share our experience of our favorites in this new blog series, “Day Passin’ in Cabo”. First up: Hilton Beach & Golf Resort.

DISCLAIMER: We have not been paid for this review, but if you are a resort and you are reading, we will gladly take you up on the opportunity to do so.

HILTON BEACH & GOLF RESORT

Fun fact: We toured this property with our wedding planner in October 2017 when we were here for vacation. It was on our list of potential wedding venues, and while we loved the property, it came in runner-up to Acre Baja.

Hilton is along the tourist corridor, in between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It’s great for a romantic getaway, a couple’s trip with friends, or a family-fun escape with the kiddos.

Pre-Day Passin’

Make a reservation at least one day prior. Call the hotel, give the number in your party, a name and you’re all set.

While the Hilton is not super busy (yet), they have a limited number of day passes available to the public each day. We’ve loved our time at Hilton so much, we’ve been twice this summer — hard to beat the fun in the sun.

SO HOW MUCH DOES THE FUN COST?

Can you really put a price on fun? (Okay, okay… maybe you can). But like, it’s worth it.

Pros: Hilton takes the day pass cake for price, amenities and experience. They offer the pass, good for two people, at $1,990 peso (~$100 USD). The actual cost of the pass is “free”, as 100% of what you pay goes toward your check.

Cons: An easy feat if you arrive early and stay all day! F&B is pretty pricey so it’s easy to spend that hundo real quick.

ARRIVAL AT THE RESORT

Technically the day pass is good from 10am to 6pm, but we usually arrive around 9:30am. We drive and valet our car but it’s also an easy Uber ride from Cabo or San Jose if you’re looking to get saucy or don’t have other options of transportation.

Before you enter, you’ll go through the typical COVID protocol of stepping on the sanitization mats, a hand sanitizer squirt and a quick thermal temperature reading.

From there, check-in is easy-breezy at the front desk. Give the receptionist your reservation name, they make you fill out a quick form with signature, and take a card to charge. They will give you a receipt which you will show to your waiter upon check-out.

Kick Back & Relax

Once you’ve checked in, walk down to the pool area and ask for the pool manager. He will walk you to your cabana for the day. With your day pass comes the option to pick a day bed (if there is open availability).

Our favorite is poolside in the Adults 21+ area, which comes with two comfy lounge chairs and an umbrella on top of the infinity pool, two beaches chairs behind us, and a shaded lounge area for afternoon naps should you need it.

Our day bed was waiting for us with a “Turner” reserved sign (VIP, okaaaay).

Long story short, six chairs for two people all in our own private area with no kiddos is much appreciated. And extra awesome if you get bored easily and want to take in the views from several types of lounge chairs.

Hilton has ocean views for days. You have a scenic overlook from really anywhere you sit. We’ve already marked on our calendars to come back during whale season because we can imagine the panoramic views of whales breaching up out of the Sea of Cortez has to be pretty unbeatable.

Food & Drink

For cocktails, we like to start our mornings with mimosas or tequila sunrises, switch to mezcalitas or something fresh and cucumber-y around lunchtime, and finish of the day with one of their craft beer options. Hilton’s cocktails and food aren’t the cheapest in Cabo, but they sure are delicious.

The food is great. Both times we went, we have enjoy the Miraflores pizza: a thin crust, grilled veggie pizza. It’s hard to pass up when you smell the wood-fire oven every time you walk from the bathroom back to the Serenity Pool. Runner up is the fish tacos - yummy, but super pricey for tacos in Mexico.

SERVICE

Five stars on the service for the staff (shout out to Diego and Santiago!) They both have taken care of us for our last two visits and have treated us like a king and queen. We were given a button to ring whenever we needed something, and most of the time they were checking on us otherwise to make sure we didn’t need a refill, snack, or an adjustment on the position of our umbrella.

Bring a floatie to soak up the sun and stay cool in the pool. But make sure to keep an eye on it — we got about 5 pictures with the pink tube before we realized the wind had taken it over to the resort next door.

While packing your beach bag, grab your insulated tumbler cups (we got ours from BruMate). They keep your cocktail cold so you never have to sip on a watered down, warm drink. The bartender will even make the cocktail in your cup, eliminating the need for wasted plastic cups and straws.

Check out the new beach club! They have fun and comfy beach bungalows, a sand bar with swings, and just a few steps away you can enjoy a dip in the ocean.  Thanks to a man-made jetty, the beach offers a swimmable area along the beach.

If you want relaxation, peace and quiet, opt for a cabana or lounge chair in the Adults Only 21+ area we mentioned, which features an infinity pool overlooking the ocean.

Embrace your inner child — slide down the water slide and frolic in the water fountains in the kids area… we thoroughly enjoyed it. A great way to cool off!
