As if an international real estate purchase wasn’t exciting enough, we decided to double-down and remodel a few key areas. The bones and the quirks of the house made us fall in love, but a vision hit us as soon as we stepped foot inside to open up the space. It was time to put our own spin on Casa Turner.

I am sure many can relate, but it feels like your phone can suck countless hours from your day. One second you’re texting a friend and the next you’re scrolling through random people’s babies and watching dog videos. So, February 2023 is the month I decided to go social media free.

Looking for a break from our daily grind, we took a long weekend to a new Baja Sur city, called El Sargento — a quieter, hip coastal town about 30 miles east of La Paz or in our case, a 2.5 hour drive from San Jose. Ready, set, relax. Vamos to El Sargento!

We started this blog, at the time titled “There & Back Again”, as a play on the plan to eventually come back to Denver to settle down after our Baja adventures. Our trial of living in Mexico went better than expected… so we decided to stay a little while longer. Bienvenidos to our new home in San Jose del Cabo!

One of our 2021 resolutions was to keep exploring different areas of Baja Sur in our downtime. This past Memorial Day we took the opportunity to road trip up the Pacific side of our state to the city of Todos Santos.

Los Barriles is a small, quiet, yet notable Baja Sur town we have heard about since we moved to Cabo. With the July 4th long weekend upon us and a day off from work, we decided a last minute staycation road trip was much needed.

Usually, right around Halloween, the group rolls down from Kansas City and Lake Of the Ozarks to vacation at Club Cascadas de Baja. 2020 definitely brought its obstacles, but one way or another, the entire family was able to make the annual trip and we were very blessed to see some familiar faces and create new memories together.

It is hard to believe we have spent 365 days around the sun living in Cabo San Lucas. We arrived on October 1, 2019 after our epic 8 day road trip. While the year has flown by, and certainly did not pan out as anyone would have expected, we have tried to make the most of the last year.

Lately, we’ve been looking for outlets to beat the heat. Day passes, offered to locals who want to enjoy a resort’s amenities, but are not staying overnight, are offered at quite a few resorts around Los Cabos, so we decided it would be fun to share our experience of our favorites in this new blog series “Day Passin’ in Cabo”.

With the decision to move to Mexico, we knew we would be taking on a whole new set of life challenges. And while we knew one of them would be the potential of hurricanes, we did not think it would actually happen within the first year of living here. Queue 2020...

As COVID has halted all of our travel plans to the states — for work, weddings, or just to see friends and family — we decided a staycation was our best option for some R&R. No airport, no rental car, no exhaustion from travel, no stress.

The time has come. No more counting down. The “Stay At Home” order has ended and we start to explore our “new normal” in Cabo. If you can’t tell by our lack of posting, our city reopened on June 15th and we finally have a bit more to share other than views of cocktails from our roof.

It’s June. Change is in the air here and it feels refreshing. While no official announcements had been made yet, we started to notice little things happening around us. We’re so close to getting back to normal, we can taste it.

How many weeks is too many weeks of Quarantine? Ten. The answer is ten. Kennedy agrees. We are hitting our peak of being “bored in the house, in the house bored”, so we decided it was time to escape for a few small adventures. But first, the latest here in Cabo.

While the slow roll of businesses opening in the states has begun, Mexico continues to stay on lockdown, keeping the locals and the tourism industry at the forefront of concern. As for us? We’re just trying to keep the creativity flowing as we ride out the remaining weeks of #QuarantinedInCabo.

Mexico life isn’t treating us too badly amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re typically homebodies on the weekend and we’re also both used to working from home, so not too much has seemed to change. Another two weeks of quarantine in the books means another two weeks of… click to read more.

We’ve entered into week three (or day 75 of March). The downside: we have not been out to a bar, restaurant, or engaged with other humans in over two weeks. The upside: We’re saving a ton of money? More quality time together? The Instagram memes? Tiger King?

The month of March started out on a high note with PTO and vacation time with friends. Kyle’s birthday plans were in the works. However, with a global pandemic unfolding just a week after our trips, our lifestyle in Mexico has definitely changed. Social distancing at the beach, ordering food in, and virtual happy hours will be our fun for the foreseeable future.
