October 6th: A Special Wedding Day in Colorado

October 6th is a date close to our hearts. In 2019, it is the day we get to celebrate our first official wedding anniversary. While many know we got married in Cabo on November 17, 2018, we chose to have a small, intimate ceremony in Denver beforehand to make it official.

A Tradition to Keep

October 3rd is Leigh’s Uncle Jeff & Aunt Nanci’s anniversary.

October 4th, her Mom & Dad’s (would have been 33 years this year!).

October 5th, her Mom Mom & Pop Pops.

It seemed fitting that October 6th fell on a Saturday in 2018, so we decided to keep the tradition going.

It wasn’t so easy planning an intimate ceremony and a full blown destination wedding, but it all worked out perfectly. We were lucky to have family travel into town to share this special weekend with us.

Friday Festivities

The celebrations started on Friday, where we arrived at the Denver courthouse to get our marriage certificate. Kyle went back to work and Leigh spent the afternoon exploring the city with her family, Pam & Pat and Kyle. They explored Cap Hill, stopping at Lala’s Wine Bar for lunch and then went downtown to the Dairy Block for happy hour cocktails. Later on in the evening, we joined both sides of our family for dinner at Bacon Social House in Sunnyside. This was the first time Leigh’s family got to meet Kyle’s parents, Kristen & Jeff!

Saturday, What a Day!

We had found our venue, Acreage Ciderhouse, earlier in the year when we visited for lunch and to soak in some beautiful mountain views. We fell in love with the space and felt like it would be a great fit for our vow exchange (a funny name coincidence, as our Cabo wedding venue was Acre Baja).

In the morning, Leigh and Pam went for a blowout in Cherry Creek. Kyle stayed back and got crafty, putting together Kennedy’s flower collar. As the late afternoon approached, it was go time. We hopped in the car and drove about 40 minutes north of the city to Lafayette, Colorado.

The ceremony took place under string lights in the barrel room (Acreage brews all of their ciders, Stem Ciders, in-house). It was short & sweet, exchanging rings and simple traditional vows (we wrote our own vows for Cabo). We used Leigh’s parent’s gold wedding bands from 1986, that Pam graciously gave to us, to make it a little more sentimental.

After the ceremony we took family photos outside. In true Colorado fashion, the weather did a 360 from the day before and temperatures plunged quite a bit. It was cool and overcast but the mountains managed to peek through a bit in our photos. Kennedy got to join us, which we were so excited about, since she would not (this time) be making the trip to Cabo. A cider toast and dinner soon followed, along with presents and celebratory bundt cake to cap off the evening. It truly was the perfect day.

After dinner at Acreage, we took the party back downtown to celebrate over cocktails at Mythology Distillery. We toasted with our friends who came to meet up and continued the celebrations into the night.

Sunday Funday

Sunday rounded out the best, and most eventful weekend. It was Bridal Shower day which was at Sol Mexican Cocina. The shower was hosted by her bridesmaids and family. It was a great morning full of lots of mimosas, sweet street corn, bundtinis, love & laughter.
